**CALLING  ALL LITTLE HAWKS, CITY HIGH ALUMNI and ANYONE who wants to help!**

HELP US COLLECT DONATIONS OF TISSUES, CLOROX WIPES, and HAND SANITIZER for our City High classrooms, so we can try to keep our kids and teachers  heathy this winter!

There’s a few ways to help! You can drop them off at The Kuennen Home at 4144 Ruth Street anytime, in the red tub near the driveway/front porch, and it will be emptied many times per day and delivered to City High regularly.

You can also send donations in with students to Jen BarbouRoske in the Health Office.

OR you can go online and shop at Target.com using the attached Link or search “City High Winter Supply Donation”- and it will ship directly to the City High Health Office! The registry is located at this link : tgt.gifts/City-High-Winter-Supply-Donation

Classes ending with 8 or 3 … it’s your year!

So far, we’ve heard from the Class of 2008, who are working on their plans.

How can the City High Alumni Association help you plan your reunion this year?

email us admin@cityhighalumni.org!

In September of 2018 Longfellow Elementary celebrates its 100th anniversary.

During the ’17-’18 school year we’re working on a project compiling stories and photos from the last 100 years. Students will have a chance to do research about Longfellow’s school and neighborhood history, collect and organize stories and photos, and interview former students.

If you have photos or stories you would be willing to share, we would love to hear from you!  You can send us your pictures or stories via email; or, you can email us and set up a time to come in and share them with a 6th grade student who will scan your photos and write up your story for you.

Our hope is to share these stories with the larger community and perhaps even create a book and website.

You can contact us at ICLongfellowStories@gmail.com

As recently elected president of your City High Alumni Association I must be the bearer of bad news.  The board of the alumni association has come to the difficult decision that we must scale back our mission and what we are able to do as a much smaller group.  Our numbers as a board have been dwindling and we are no longer able to continue to accomplish all of the things that we have in the past.  Sadly one of the things that we can no longer keep up with is the newsletter.  It is my deepest hope that this situation will not be permanent.

I am using this post as an announcement and as a plea for help.  If the things that we do are of value to you please consider volunteering for the board.  We would love to have you and welcome committed individuals with some time and energy to dedicate.  The time commitment is reasonable and if you contact me I am happy to discuss and provide any more needed details.

We will continue our participation with the homecoming parade, banner carriers, the alumni scholarships, alumnus of the year and many of the other things you know and expect us to do.  We have just needed to cut back at this time to keep the amount of work that there is to do reasonable for the very small number of us that are left.

Thank you for your attention and your consideration.

The Class of 1972 will hold reunion events on July 21/22nd.

For more information, contact Lori Lacina at lorichs72@hotmail.com

As 2’s and 7’s gear up for another reunion season, let the City High Alumni Association help! We can put your reunion planners in touch with City High for a tour of the remodeled facility, or even help with event planning. Did you know the most popular class reunion activity is a service project on the City High campus? It’s a great way to get people involved and leave a legacy for current and future students. Contact the Board today at admin@cityhighalumni.org and learn more about opportunities to give back to CHS.

The City High Alumni Association is pleased to announce the selection of Karrie Knutson Craig as the 2016 Alumna of the Year.

Karrie has been heavily involved in helping with City High School and others for many years.  She has been a City High PSTO officer for five years, a Hoover PTA officer for three years, the SEJH Co-chair of magazine sales for six years, Co-president of the Districtwide Parent Organization and a Board member of the Little Hawks Club for ten years.  She served on school district committees for wellness, behavioral programs, boundaries, superintendent and principal searches.  She also was a volunteer involved with choir, show choir, band, iJag, football, track, soccer and basketball.

She was the Co-founder and director of ToGather Together, a county-wide organization that provides free school supplies to any child in need.  She has helpled raise over $100,000 to provide supplies for over 30,000 students in Johnson County since 2008.

Karrie will be honored at the 2016 Hall of Fame Dessert Reception in the City High Commons at 7pm on Thursday October October 6.

Wednesday, October 5th will be the annual CHS Homecoming Parade and the City High Alumni Association invites all alumni to participate. We’ll meet in the parking lot of Mercer Park at 5:30 PM prior to the 6:00 PM start of the parade. We encourage any of our participants to bring convertibles, vintage cars, pickups and small trucks to drive along the parade route while we walk to Bates Field. See you October 5th and GO LITTLE HAWKS!
